The gear shaper utilized in the fabrication of the gears for a drawbridge, was completely laid out, assembled, and made operational by Fulton Iron employees. The shapers capacity was made larger  by separating the gear index unit, the power unit, and the mill head and re-anchoring them next to a pit, to handle the larger diameter.

The pit had to be made wider and a support added to the back side to support the weight of the mandrel.

The arms were added to the mandrel to support the 67 degree gear segment to within 0.005" tolerance from top to bottom.

The gears were roughed out on a vertical mill, then finished on the gear shaper.
